In our fast-paced lives, we often miss sharing the unique experiences we encounter. But here we are, ready to spill the beans on our wholesome and unforgettable experience of architectural photography Bangalore.

Bangalore Photographer

Multiple Purposes, Multiple Perspectives

As you might know, a single property—be it commercial, institutional, or hospitality—is photographed for various purposes for different parties: designers, architects, PMCs, and more by either one or multiple photographers.  Some aim to build their portfolios, others need documentation, and some want to use the photos for global competition platforms.
Hotels and resorts, in particular, want their hospitality services reflected in every shot to attract more customers, while designers focus on showcasing their design finesse. Each photo serves a unique purpose, so a single shot can’t satisfy all needs. The angles for a designer’s work differ from those for an a commercial entity.

The Unique Charm of Kshemavana

We’ve handled many projects in interior and architectural photography Bangalore and beyond, but Kshemavana, a wellness center, stands out for several reasons. First, their holistic approach to healing people through sustainable methods impressed us. Second, the unique design of the space was a joy to capture. We aimed to convey the serenity and meditative state that the premises offer, providing a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Photography Inspiration from Senior

The property fortunately had already been photographed by the renowned Senior Photographer, Gokul Rao Kadam. We were in awe of his meticulous work and took great inspiration from it. Despite not doing a recce prior, we understood the space through his photography, for which we are immensely grateful. Mr. Kadam has been excelling in the field for over a decade, and we felt the pressure to create photographs that matched his level of excellence.

Photoshoot Planning & Execution Amidst Challenges

Upon arriving in Bangalore, we conducted a recce on the first day and devised a day-wise plan. This ensured the team kept the space ready for us, even as the institution was occupied with customers. Marketing team also required a few photos. The project was vast, and we were accompanied by the designer’s team and assisted by the marketing team. The challenge was to complete the shoot within three days. The client provided a brief on which specific areas to shoot and how they should be captured was left on us.

It was a different experience on various levels and presented a new perspective. Moreover, Architectural photography Bangalore experience offered us endless opportunities to explore the intricate details and grand visions that make each building a masterpiece.

Capturing the Essence of Architecture

We aimed to capture the interaction of architecture with the rainy season, but unfortunately, it didn’t rain. Here, Architecture is designed to handle typical weather, and we were excited to showcase this aspect. The owners of the centre, SDM Trust head has curated a stunning collection of ancient Dravidian-style, temple, and antique doors, which AKFD artfully repurposed across various campus locations.

Coming from an architectural background, we appreciated the intermingling of different styles by the designers as well. Indian mythological elements, such as Garuda, was also incorporated into the design.

Conclusion: Embracing the Challenge

The project was definitely larger in scale compared to our previous ones, but we embraced the challenge and enjoyed every moment. It was an exhausting yet exhilarating experience. We learned a lot and captured some incredible shots that reflected the unique essence of Kshemavana.

In the end, despite the challenges, we were thrilled with the results. We managed to capture the tranquility, beauty, and architectural brilliance of Kshemavana. This experience has not only added another feather to our cap but also enriched our journey as architectural photographers.

Until next time, Bangalore! We look forward to our next enriching adventure in the world of architectural photography Bangalore. Keep an eye out for more stories and behind-the-scenes glimpses of our work!

Hello from the team of Studio BluOra, an Interior and Architectural Photography firm. Today, we want to share our exhilarating experience of our outstation shoot as a team in Mumbai.

Hello from the team of Studio BluOra, an Interior and Architectural Photography firm. Today, we want to share our exhilarating experience of our outstation shoot as a team in Mumbai. As a team of interior photographer Mumbai, we faced numerous challenges but also enjoyed every bit of the journey.

1 Mumbai Blog BTS

Early Start

Our day began at an unusual hour of 3 a.m. to catch a six o’clock flight from Jaipur. After reaching the airport at 5 a.m., the security checks took around half an hour. The scrutiny at the airport was thorough; we had to unpack our photography gear completely, which was nerve-wracking as we feared misplacing something. Our fellow travellers eyed us curiously as we handled our cameras and many accessories.

Flight and Arrival in Mumbai

Once on board, we had a light breakfast to calm our nerves. The prospect of outstation shoot as interior photographer Mumbai was both exciting and daunting. By 8:30 a.m., we landed at Terminal 1 in Mumbai and took a cab to Churchgate, which was about 28 kilometers away. We arrived at the shoot location by 10:30 a.m., where we met the clients, Ms. Surbhi Bansal of Project 1505 and Ms. Dinkle Sonegara from Studio 23.eight.

Interior Photography Site Recce

Upon reaching the site, we did a quick recce only to find it in disarray due to ongoing paint work. The labourers estimated another hour to finish. The clients suggested we explore the city instead of waiting. We decided to visit Marine Drive, which was nearby. The serene ambiance of Marine Drive was refreshing, and we managed to capture some beautiful clips for our office BTS reel. Exploring Marine Drive allowed us to unwind and capture the city’s vibrant essence, further inspiring our work as interior photographers in Mumbai.

Back to Work

By 11:15 a.m., we got the call that the site was ready for the shoot. It took us another 15 minutes to get back. The drizzle and breeze in Mumbai added a unique charm to the city’s vibe. Back at the site, we discussed styling adjustments before starting the shoot. Our first shot was of the conference room. We constantly shared the photos with sir for feedback who was at Jaipur office, tweaking angles and focal lengths as needed.

Overcoming Hurdles

Some shots were particularly challenging. For instance, capturing the corner ceiling of a classroom designed with a curved seating arrangement was tricky but we managed it somehow. Additionally, the blue lighting in one of the rooms caused issues. We resolved this by taking a single exposure shot with the lights off and later masking it in post-processing. Navigating the unique lighting challenges and interior features of the site truly tested our skills and adaptability as interior photographers in Mumbai.

Interior Photoshoot Completion

By 3 p.m., we completed shooting the conference area and cabins. After a quick lunch break, we resumed shooting the classroom at 3:30 p.m. and finished by 5 p.m. With the shoot wrapped up, we felt a mix of relief and anxiety, eager to return to the airport.

Journey Back

The return journey was fraught with heavy rain and traffic, but we reached the airport by 7:30 p.m. Security checks were thorough again, including the tripod inspection. By 8 p.m., we had dinner at the airport while watching some thriller series. Our flight to Jaipur was scheduled for 9:30 p.m. but got delayed by 40 minutes. Eventually, we flew at 10:15 p.m.

We arrived back in Jaipur at around 12:30 a.m. and reached home by 1:30 a.m. Exhausted but content, we reflected on our first Interior and Architectural Photography assignment in Mumbai. The 24-hour journey was a whirlwind of experiences, teaching us invaluable lessons and boosting our confidence as interior photographers.

Reflections

This shoot in Mumbai was a significant milestone for us as interior photographers. The city’s dynamic environment, coupled with the challenges we faced, enhanced our skills and resilience. We look forward to more opportunities as architectural photographers, capturing the essence of diverse spaces and bringing them to life through our lens.

Thank you for joining us on this adventure. Stay tuned for more stories from our journeys as Interior Photographer in Mumbai and beyond.

Bringing Spaces to Life: The Creative Vision of Interior Photography

Interior photography is a specialised branch of photography that focuses on capturing the beauty, functionality, and unique aspects of interior spaces. It involves the photography of  interior spaces, such as homes, offices, hotels, or retail environments through a skilful composition that showcases its design elements, ambience, and overall aesthetics.

It requires a combination of technical expertise and an understanding of design principles to effectively convey the vision and intention of the interior designer.

7 Things to keep in mind while doing Interior Photography

Analysing the Space:

Before clicking the shutter, an interior photographer must analyse the space. The analysis helps to identify the design elements, focal points, and unique features that need emphasis in the photographs. Understanding the purpose and function of the space enables the photographer to create images that accurately represent the intended experience and ambience.

Different Frames for Different Purposes:

Interior photography serves various purposes, depending on the intended audience. For interior designers, photographs may focus on capturing the design details, layout, and overall aesthetic. In this case, narrow shots that showcase the entire space or specific design elements are preferred. On the other hand, for builders, real estate agents or brokers, the emphasis may be on highlighting the functionality and potential of the space to attract potential buyers. In such cases, photographs may include wide-angle shots, close-ups of specific features, staging elements, or lifestyle shots that evoke emotions and demonstrate the lifestyle the space offers.

Showing Functionality and Connectivity:

interior photograph showing connectivity

A well-executed interior photograph not only captures the static elements of a space but also showcases its functionality and the way different areas connect. Through carefully composed images, photographers can convey the flow and purpose of each space, illustrating how various rooms or zones seamlessly interact and contribute to the overall design narrative. Motion pictures, such as cinematography or short videos, can further enhance the storytelling aspect, providing a dynamic perspective.

Time is of the essence:

The time at which interior photographs are taken can significantly impact the mood and story they convey. Natural light has a profound effect on the ambience of a space, and the photographer must carefully consider the time of day to capture the desired lighting conditions. Morning light may create a fresh and airy ambience, while twilight or evening shots can evoke a cosy and intimate feel. The choice of lighting and the time of shooting can enhance the story and evoke specific emotions associated with the space.

Interior Styling: Interior styling plays a vital role in interior photography. By carefully curating and arranging furniture, accessories, and decorative elements, stylists collaborate with photographers to create visually appealing and balanced compositions. Their expertise in creating cohesive colour palettes, adding texture, and optimising the visual impact of space enhances the overall aesthetic and helps to bring the design vision to life.

Filling Life into the Space:

As interior photographers, our motive is to breathe life into the spaces we capture. Through thoughtful composition, lighting techniques, and attention to detail, we strive to showcase the unique character, ambience, and functionality of the interior. Our photographs aim to inspire, evoke emotions, and transport viewers into the envisioned experience of the space.

Understanding the End User:

To capture the perfect interior photographs, it is crucial to understand the intended purpose and audience. Whether it’s for portfolio showcasing, publication in magazines, or selling a space, tailoring the approach and style of photography to meet the end user’s needs ensures that the photographs effectively communicate the desired message.

Interior photography is a skilful blend of technical expertise, artistic vision, and an understanding of design principles. We capture images that fill life into interior spaces by analysing the space, employing different frames for different purposes, showcasing functionality and connectivity, considering the time of the shooting, incorporating interior styling, and understanding the end user. As interior photographers, we have the privilege of immortalising the work of interior designers, architects, and stylists, and our photographs serve as a visual testament to the beauty and functionality of these thoughtfully crafted spaces.

BTS: Shooting on a ‘Live-site’: Problems faced by photographers when the site is pre-occupied.

Architectural photography has a few very essential components that form a crucial part of the frame/shot planning & consideration:

  • Architectural component
  • Existing props: Both external & internal
  • Users of the space

Shooting at a live site might not be the same as shooting at a site that is not in use or is vacated for the shoot. While it has its own charm of being a bustling space, it can get difficult for the photographer & choreographer to carry out their frames.

Personal space & professional space: merging of the frame & the living space

The activity component along with the users might create a hassle to coordinate & frame the shots. Spaces of residential & office use specifically are difficult to manoeuvre around owing to the discomfort of infringing workspace or living space of the users.

Shooting on live site, problems faced during interior photography in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Staging problems

Setting up the frame is easy when you are staging it yourself. At real locations, however, when the set is already present, although alterations happen, it can become a bit dis-coordinated.

Props are one of the main contributors to an architectural photography session, especially when it comes to interiors shoot. Prop-management is a difficult task in a space, especially when it is in use.

Communication gap & time delay

With active users, on-site, coordination & choreography of the shoot & frame can get difficult. In case of a communication gap, the architectural photographer might seem to infringe their privacy & space.

Planning & patience can gain great results in such situations. Some precautions can save you time & efforts.

  • Proper & timely coordination with the client is necessary. If possible, explain & discuss your session with the users to avoid confusion.
  • Visit the site a couple of times before the shoot. Get a hold of the available props on-site & studying the user patterns can give you a better hold of the space & frame.
  • Pre-planning of the staging & frame is essential to avoid last-minute issues.
  • Backup plan for shots & props, just in case the planned shot cannot happen.

Portrayal of utter abstract

Scroll UP is an avant-garde restaurant which has an upmarket and clean ambience, founded by Gaurav Bulani.

It has been designed by Studio Infinite led by Ar.Shivang Agarwal, with a warm and contemporary feel, carefully designed to enable space yet intimacy. Unified by its abstract and clean interiors Scroll UP presents modernity in style.

The art of eating in a restaurant does not only involve high quality food, it is most of all a celebration of human contact.

To echo the theme of the restaurant, everything has been custom designed in abstract fashion from the wall pattern, screening designed for isolation to the chair upholstery.

A café where you can encounter both indoor as well as outdoor sitting experience while enjoying a pristine view of the urban fabric and clear sky.

The ceiling design in combination with the artificial diffused light played a crucial role to create a dramatic effect, it serves as a focal point, drawing the eyes up while balancing the space. Whereas the hanging lights imparts a regal touch, in both indoor and outdoor sitting.

In segregating the indoor and outdoor sitting, the use of glass creates a simple and refined facade. It softens the space and encourages an extended field of vision. Variations in seating structure are also utilized to maintain these different zones.

Feeling of Comfort and charm of space is achieved through the functional logic design and use of custom designed furniture. In contrast with the vibrant furniture, the monochrome flooring gives the space a next dimension.

How to find your Architecture & Interiors Photographer?

One needs to understand here, that the perspective of a portrait pictographer isn’t the same as that of an interiors/architectural photographer. These are niche inside niche experts who focus purely on design-based photography.

Architecture & designing is as much as an art on the planning table as it is to the naked eye of the viewer. Capturing this beauty to market it, could be a tough job to execute.

What shows on your picture-portfolio is what speaks on your behalf to the audience. Like it takes a professional to design it for you [or you yourself], it takes a professional eye to curate it into a photograph for you, too!

Hence, choosing a photographer for your project is an important & crucial step.

Most of the times, we attempt to execute the job by ourselves or just any guy with a good camera.

One needs to understand here, that the perspective of a portrait pictographer isn’t same as that of an interiors/architectural photographer. These are niche inside niche experts who focus purely on design based photography.

Finding one though, might sound like some real trouble; doesn’t it? But actually, it isn’t. Few easy steps & you could find the right fit to get a fabulous product.

A few dos & don’ts for finding the right partner:

    • Ditch the digital

You can’t find all on google & google can’t recommend the brightest to you. So it’s best to first go to people for recommendations & suggestions. If you yourself are an architectural/interior professional looking to get your work photographed, talk within the circle to find out the best of options.

[You never know, you might even find architectural professionals themselves doing architectural & interiors photography, just like us!]

If you are a client looking to get some good stuff on brochures for marketing, contact your designer to find out about such professional photographers specialising in design photography.

    • Online search & research

Such professionals mostly have their own websites or an online portfolio on social media. You can get tabs on them easily though ‘hashtag searching’ their field of expertise.

Sometimes, you may find your photographer just by chance online itself.

These online work profiles & portfolios provide you with a good chance to gauge their work & talent & judge if they suit your needs.

Also, you can pick or make new ideas about how you want your place imagined & portrayed in the pictures.

    • Develop an idea board

Before meeting your photographer, try to gather some ideas & imagery, which you want to match to. This could in terms of lighting, furnishing, set-designing for the pictures etc.

This is an important step in the way of creating a fabulous portfolio of the place. The photographer is always available to help you out, but your idea of the place is conveyed exactly through what you convey to the photographer.

Try using media platforms like Pinterest, Houzz & other interior websites to fish ideas & create your idea boards.

    • Work together

The design & space might be yours but the project is the photographer’s baby; so work together & discuss out things in detail which can bring out the best out of the place instead of one of the party’s ideas.  Put across your opinions & take suggestions & ideas with an open mind.

Together you & photographer can create true magic on film.

  • Choose wise & enquire more wisely to find a professional who is invested in architectural/interiors photography truly & wholly.
