Interior Photographer in Bangalore: Sharing story of capturing diverse spaces, from wellness centers to corporate offices, highlighting design in natural light.

In our experience as interior photographer in Bangalore, we frequently encounter working spaces that are confined and restricted, just enough for employees to enter and perform their jobs. The typical corporate setup of 9 to 5 within glass façades is a prevalent trend.

Typically, commercial spaces convey a specific ambiance, yet our visit to the SDM Trust office defied expectations. The atmosphere we encountered was unlike any other, leaving a lasting impression.

Transitioning Between Projects

The SDM Trust office, located in the posh area of Church Street in Bangalore, offered a view of the cityscape with its skyscrapers. This project was relatively smaller in scale compared to Kshemavana, and there was a noticeable shift in energy and design language after our three-day continuous shoot at the wellness centre.

Gitesh, who leads our architectural photographers in Bangalore and other cities’ shoot as well, observed this shift, noting,

“As we often get conditioned while doing one project, we need to shift our entire perspective to a next one accordingly. It took around 1-2 hours for me to settle down and tune down.”

The switch from a large space with landscape and structure to a small space like the SDM office was significant. The SDM office, also designed by AKFD, had an easy-going, lighter color palette, which was a pleasant surprise. It lacked the corporate or claustrophobic feel and had its unique vibe.

The Shoot Day

The day of the shoot was rainy and dull, and we had to wait for the sun to come out for the sunlit shots we desired. We aimed to keep the space organic in our photography, with minimal styling. We left the sticky notes and other elements as they were to show the genuine working environment of the employees there.

Capturing the Space

As interior photographers in Bangalore, we understand the importance of capturing the essence of a space. The SDM office had a welcoming entrance, with two cabins that depicted the distinct personalities of the two individuals who worked there. The reception area was cosy and had an earthen feel, with natural light flooding in from the windows, which provided a positive and motivating atmosphere.

The pink kitchenette was chic and added character to the space. The color palette was light and vibrant, complemented by customized furniture from AKFD. A organic shaped dinning table featured a beautifully shaped single stone table where one could sit and eat, with a large window as well as a balcony offering refreshing views to employees.

We captured the space using natural light, letting it shine through the windows. We avoided wide-angle shots, opting for narrower shots to emphasize the space’s functionality and character.

Conclusion

Working as an interior photographer in Bangalore, we thrive on the diversity of projects we encounter. Each space, whether large or small, corporate or casual, presents its unique challenges and opportunities. The SDM Trust office was a refreshing change from the usual corporate setups, with its vibrant colors, natural light, and customized design elements. It was a testament to the dynamic nature of our work and the vibrant architectural landscape of Bangalore.

Through our lens, we aim to showcase the true essence of every space we capture, making each project a memorable experience.

Having extensively worked as an interior photographer in Delhi, Gurgaon and nearby cities, we always look forward to new projects there, especially when they promise to challenge our creativity and technical skills.

Fortunately our recent residential project took us to Gurgaon, and we couldn’t be more excited. The reference images had already sparked our enthusiasm, and we were eager to dive into this large-scale project. The challenge? Covering the entire space in just one day. Taking up the challenge as an architectural photography agency in Gurgaon, we love these kinds of challenges.

The project, DLF The Camellias, was an expansive, single-floor flat. Upon our arrival, we conducted a thorough recce to plan our angles and compositions.

This initial survey is crucial as it helps us understand the space and how best to showcase its features. We quickly realised that this project presented a unique blend of subtle yet vibrant colors. The space was a harmonious mix of muted tones with bold color palette, making it visually striking and diverse.

The designers had meticulously styled the space, and everything was arranged perfectly for the shoot. However, one major adjustment we requested was regarding the curtains.

The living room had blackout curtains installed, which significantly reduced the natural light. Working as an architectural photographer in Delhi or any other cities, we often encounter such challenges and know that lighting can make or break a shot.

Being in the interior & architecture photography field for years now we believe that natural light plays a crucial role in highlighting the beauty of a space. Therefore, we asked the designers to remove the blackout curtains with sheer ones to allow soft, diffuse light to fill the room.

With the lighting issue resolved, we commenced the shoot. The designers envisioned showcasing the spaciousness of the flat, while our team preferred narrower shots to capture the intricate details.

We struck a balance by incorporating both wide-angle shots, as per the designers’ preferences, and mid-range shots, which Sarah and I believed would naturally portray the space. This dual approach ensured that we highlighted both the grand scope and the finer details of the interior.

The shoot was a one-of-a-kind experience for us, and we meticulously curated each shot throughout the day. Generally, we prefer taking naturally lit shots, and it rarely happens that we shoot extensively into the evening.

However, this project was an exception. As the day progressed, the space transformed under the changing light, offering us different vibes to capture. As an interior photographer in Delhi, we relish these opportunities to explore varied lighting conditions.

In the daytime, the flat exuded a bright and airy ambiance. The natural light enhanced the vibrant colors and the open layout, making the space feel welcoming and expansive.

As evening fell, the atmosphere shifted dramatically. The dimly lit interiors created a cozy, intimate setting, and we aimed to capture this transition through our evening shots. The space emanated a warm and inviting glow as the sun set, highlighting the versatility of the design.

This shoot in Gurgaon was a testament to the dynamic nature of interior photography. It required us to adapt to different lighting conditions and balance various perspectives to do justice to the designers’ vision.

Finishing up another project as an architectural photographer in Delhi was invaluable. This not only enhanced our skills but also deepened our appreciation for the art of interior design. If you’re looking for an architectural photography agency in Gurgaon or an interior photographer in Delhi who can bring your design projects to life, look no further. Our recent experience in Gurgaon has once again demonstrated our commitment to capturing the essence of every space we photograph.

Hike to Bahubali Hills

Our journey began with a sunrise hike for hotel photography through the Bahubali hills to highlight the secluded charm of the hotel’s location. The early morning hike gave us the perfect backdrop as these hills were less touristy at that time. The staff was of hospitable nature and kept us going by giving masala tea and cookies as refreshment in-between the shots. These little kind gestures made the times more memorable and fun cause it’s the little things that matters the most.

Meticulous Planning for the Perfect Shot

We were divided in three teams specifically assigned for hotel photography, videography, and captivating drone shots, to complete the project within a tight two-day timeframe. During our thorough location checking, we even studied the sun direction for optimal lighting.

Next day we started the day early, capturing soft morning outdoor shots, specifically the pool side. During the day we were busy seizing interior details to avoid harsh sunlight.

BTS: Shooting on a ‘Live-site’: Problems faced by photographers when the site is pre-occupied.

Architectural photography has a few very essential components that form a crucial part of the frame/shot planning & consideration:

  • Architectural component
  • Existing props: Both external & internal
  • Users of the space

Shooting at a live site might not be the same as shooting at a site that is not in use or is vacated for the shoot. While it has its own charm of being a bustling space, it can get difficult for the photographer & choreographer to carry out their frames.

Personal space & professional space: merging of the frame & the living space

The activity component along with the users might create a hassle to coordinate & frame the shots. Spaces of residential & office use specifically are difficult to manoeuvre around owing to the discomfort of infringing workspace or living space of the users.

Shooting on live site, problems faced during interior photography in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Staging problems

Setting up the frame is easy when you are staging it yourself. At real locations, however, when the set is already present, although alterations happen, it can become a bit dis-coordinated.

Props are one of the main contributors to an architectural photography session, especially when it comes to interiors shoot. Prop-management is a difficult task in a space, especially when it is in use.

Communication gap & time delay

With active users, on-site, coordination & choreography of the shoot & frame can get difficult. In case of a communication gap, the architectural photographer might seem to infringe their privacy & space.

Planning & patience can gain great results in such situations. Some precautions can save you time & efforts.

  • Proper & timely coordination with the client is necessary. If possible, explain & discuss your session with the users to avoid confusion.
  • Visit the site a couple of times before the shoot. Get a hold of the available props on-site & studying the user patterns can give you a better hold of the space & frame.
  • Pre-planning of the staging & frame is essential to avoid last-minute issues.
  • Backup plan for shots & props, just in case the planned shot cannot happen.
